Here’s Where It Began

Baris Johnson, former Reggae Boyof the men’s Jamaican Natioanl Team and Premiership player with Waterhouse FC, embarked on an unprecedented and fearless journey with the formation of the GSM International Community Academy Development Football Program in Drewsland and with a solid partnership with National Premeirship League football club Waterhouse FC. This began in February of 2008 and has literally move forward with great success beyond just a Saturday program for local youth.

The Waterhouse Football Club was founded in 1969 and started with their home ground at Emmet Park. Their home ground has since been moved into the community, The Waterhouse mini stadium, which can hold a capacity of up to 5000. The team is based in Kingston. The team has been nicknamed "Fire House" showing the fans' creative irony. The team won the National Premier League last in 2006 only their second time since 1998. Waterhouse has youth teams and senior teams. The new boys under 13 team is made up of players from GSM International Community Academy Development Football Program.

Here’s The Real Story

Johnson and friends Gregory Hall, goalkeeper for Waterhouse; Marcelle Gayle, coach of the Waterhouse Under-13 and Under-20 teams; and Andrew Fuller, former coach at Drews Avenue Primary, have donated their time and efforts to more than 150 children in the inner-city community of Waterhouse and its surrounding areas. The result of the Community GSM Academy can now be seen through this U13 Team. Baris and his staff are now developing U7, U9 and U11 teams to create youth that are prepared to play on the next U13 team when the present U13 team advances to U15 island competeive league. The excitemen comes from know that these players not only get great coaching but they have the opportunity in practice session and match days to hear about Jesuse Christ.

Presently, the Boys Waterhouse FC U13 football team has made it to the next league round of match play in the KSAFA Youth 13. Right now they are one of the favorites to capture this year league title. Besides the efforts of team Coach Stanley, credit given to Global Soccer Ministries for their involvement, as all the players are from the GSM Community Academy Development Program.

Striker and U13 Team member, Zavia Forrester has credited GSM for the number of goals scored so far. “The program is a God-send. We learn to read and it helps the other kids to develop their football skills. If you cannot read, they help you to learn to read”, He also says he has improved his skills in dribbling, controlling and passing the football. Waterhouse U13’s record so far is 3-1-1.

With the partnership of GSM providing Coaching Education for coaches in Jamaica including the Waterhouse Football Club’s coaching staff, one can be assured that in five years’ time, Jamaica’s football will be a force to be reckoned with. We love and appreciate GSM’s involvement in community development with biblical principles and passion for football which is helping change lives in Waterhouse, Drewsland and surrounding communities. Bringing youths together to play football has helped them to socialize in a more positive manner and has taught them the value of appreciating each other.

Here’s The Real Deal

Our goal is to provide Waterhouse FC with players that have been developed from our GSM Academy Program and one day our partnership with WFC will see that their players for the most part (U13, U15, U17, U20, U21 and the senior pro players) will be the by product of what the Mission of GSM Jamaica is about. In fact one day WFC players will be represent the National Team of Jamaica and telling others about Christ while playing for their country.
