“Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.  Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation. By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him. – Hebrews 11:1-3 and 6 (NLT)

If you’re coaching and believe this is part of God’s ministry for you, you need to be doing the right things—leading players to the Lord, making an effort to win matches for the Kingdom, mentor, leading and disciple your players Biblically are a few starters. When you take these actions seriously, you take on the characteristics God wants you to pursue and that He designed especially for you. You then can move your coaching forward with the characteristics of being filled with integrity/honesty, being humble as opposed to pride, possess a trusting faith, have clean lips, peace of mind and heart and a giving away your entire self. You are lead and walk in the Power of the Spirit of God, and you do this in a manner worthy of who you are supposed to be, following Christ’s example and not this world’s foolishness.

It’s not easy when the only thing you have on your mind is total on winning matches rather than changing the direction of your player’s faith development in the Lord. You are to walk in the same manner Christ walked. He did life directed by His Father God and wanted only to please Him. Furthermore, you can read in Hebrews 12:2 that Jesus is the author (the designer who writes down the exact words of how your life is to happen) and the one who develops (sets up the plans) and who strengthens your faith by His empowering. What’s the real problem that keeps Christian coaches from having this complete and trusting faith when you have Christ on your side? You simply take your eyes off Christ Jesus (His birth, life on this earth, death, resurrection, His command to do His great commission and ascension back to His Father).

It’s a to be a no-brainer, and for sure God wonders why some of us haven’t gotten it after so many years of living and coaching this great game of soccer. Knowing about morality; being in church, Sunday school, and Bible study groups; having personal Bible studies; having conversations with friends, and reading books will all be part of your life, BUT it could be all YOU no culturally or traditionally. So, ask yourself, “Am I being empowered by the Holy Spirit living inside me or Am I empowering myself.”   Matthew 7:21-23 says. “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day, many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name. But I will reply, I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.” (NLT)

What’s your next move?
