John 15:10-16 says, “When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.  I have told you these things so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow! This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.  There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.  You are my friends if you do what I command.  I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.  You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.” – NLT

How do you develop friendships with your players as Jesus did with His apostles and disciples? You meet someone, get to know them, ask questions, tell them about yourself, spend time with them and include them in your daily life. It’s no different with your friendship with God and His Son. His friendship will never force His way into your life. You must willingly invite Him to be your Forever Friend and grow this friend because of the power of God’s Holy Spirit living inside you. When this happens, and the friendship is bonded in Jesus you become the channel for Him using this abiding friendship and all that He commanded you to do serving Him along. You need an enduring friendship with the Master.

To do this, you must be a person of peace and find others who want to know that special relationship you have with the Savior, “That peace that passes all we understand and comprehension.”  It’s always not always found in church because it can’t be produced only Sunday. It’s a daily development of a friendship that is built on trusting, being faithful and knowing more about the relationship you need to have with our Father while imitating the holiness of Christ. The influencing power and availability of the Holy Spirit will complete His work as you coach this game, serving you players, and whatever He wants you to do. He designed you giving interesting abilities, gifts and a personality to do it for His glory.  He gives you Grace beyond what you deserve extended by His love and mercy to create a way to think, speak and coach.

Coaches doing leadership and discipleship are a relationship where you influence your players to be significant. When leadership is exercised, one person is striving to change the vision, values, attitudes, or behaviors of others that will benefit and impact them for the rest of their life. Your leadership direction will never be about your position, and it is not about your characteristics. It’s only about your Heavenly Father significant time’s influence over you and those you lead to change their direction. Let us then get it right and go back to the basic of knowing, thinking, leaning, resting and working, serving our Father through what He tells us in His words and what His Son Jesus Christ told us to do. God’s design plan is written loud and clear in the Bible and there is no other plan that we need to follow.

Matthew 28:18-20 says, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – NIV

What’s your next move?
